general rules
First of all, hello and welcome to As the Time Goes By. We ask that you read these rules and follow them. It will not only help us out in the long run as the staff, but it will also make things much more fun for all of us. If we as staff have to worry about solving disputes about things that could have been avoided if someone had read the rules... well it is hard to look up to a site. As the owners of this site, we ask that you take the time to follow these rules as best as you can, merely to make things more fun for everyone. Thank you.
001. No harassment, sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical. None of this is allowed. If you no someone in real life, it is not permit-able to hit them or harm them in any way in regards to this site. If someone reports this, you will be warned and receive punishment.
002. Cursing. It is allowed, but in minimal doses. You may not curse constantly and repeatedly. We do not need to expose members to that. Some members may be as young as thirteen. Think about this, if you had a thirteen year old sister, what would you want her to hear and see. Just remember that.
003. Our site rating is PG-13. We don't need anything over that here. It is not only not allowed according to the Proboards TOS, but it is also not something a thirteen year old needs to see. The staff is here to make sure that nothing inappropriate happens either in the chatbox or on the boards. We pay attention. Don't do it.
004. No fighting is allowed on this site. In any form. In order to avoid fighting, it is recommended that you refrain from discussing diplomatic subjects. These can include politics, religion, and other topics that can cause a large fight.
005. We ask that your account has an avatar and a signature of your character. It is not difficult to do, we have shops here where members can offer to make you one. Otherwise, if you need one made, just post a request and anyone can answer it.
006. Stealing from As the Time Goes By is strictly prohibited. If you are reported for stealing you will be removed from our site, banned, and not allowed to return. Stealing work is not allowed, whether it be a character, graphic, or writing.
007. If you will not be able to post an application within four days of joining, we ask that you post in our going away board. All accounts that do not have a biography started within four days will be removed. We don't want a bunch of inactive accounts around here.
008. An application must be finished within one week of being started. If it is not, your application will be placed in the archive and your account will be deleted. Should you ever come back you will have to restart your application.
009. All members are required to post in activity checks. Unless you are given special exception from the staff, you will be required to post here. Special exception will only be given under certain circumstances, such as injury, absence such as a vacation or personal, or any other reason that the team deems fit.
010. Canons and claims are a first come, first serve basis. You will not be permitted to take someone else's canon or claim unless they go inactive or fail to post in an activity check, their claims will be removed and canons be re-opened.
011. Staff do not appreciate being haggled about accepting characters. If you are going to do it, you will be warned immediately. We do not have all the time in the world. If your character has been waiting for three days to be accepted then you have the right to ask us to review your application.
012. If we ask you to revise something in your application, it is best that you do it. We ask you to change them for a reason. We will not do anything discriminatory, but we do have a standard for our applications and without it being met, you will be asked to revise it.
013. We ask that when registering, your first account becomes your member account. Then in the signature, link all of your profiles using the @user tags. If you do not understand how these work, simply ask an admin and they will help you.
014. Please make your member profile all caps and then all characters regular capitalization.
creation rules
001. First of all, make sure that you use our biography form. While it is detailed, and a little long, we ask that you use it because we want all of the same information for all of our characters. It makes things much easier to keep track of when reading a biography if all of the same things are in every biography.
002. Your application should be posted using the title "LAST, first". It makes things look nice and helps us keep track of everything while we are trying to organize our threads. If you do not post it this way, we as staff reserve the right to mark your character as pending.

003. Character's that are associated with canons are allowed. This includes having an original character that is related to a canon. If you are curious how to do so, send a private message to Danni and she will be able to help you with this.
004. We only allow one canon per person because there are not a whole lot of canons. Please do not ask to have more.
005. Every personality has a flaw. Even the canons. If you are not sure what to do with them, don't sweat it. They are in the creation of Danni's mind. Your characters are basically original characters, but with set names and plots that are meant to happen.
006. When creating a personality and history, make sure everything lines up. If a character has a scar, make sure to explain how it happened. It helps a character add up. And make sure that a character's personality is explained in their history. A character just isn't bitter. They need to have a reason why, something that set them off. Something that made it happen.
007. Please make sure that when writing a history, that you give us details. And that you make it so your history is not too mopey and sad, but not completely perfect and happy either. No character gets a completely happily ever after and no one gets a terrible history that makes them so bitter and cold to the world that they would hate everyone and everything.
